A 51-year-old Indian man has been arrested after allegedly shooting and killing his wife and three relatives during a violent domestic dispute in suburban Atlanta, Georgia. Authorities confirmed that three children were present during the incident and survived after hiding in a closet as gunfire erupted inside the home.

The accused shooter has been identified as Vijay Kumar, 51. The victims include his wife, Meemu Dogra, 43, and three relatives: Gourav Cumar, 33; Nidhi Chander, 37; and Harish Chander, 38. All four adults were found with fatal gunshot wounds inside a residence on Brook Ivy Court in Gwinnett County.

Police said the incident was reported around 2:30 a.m. on Friday (23), when emergency responders received a 911 call from a child inside the home. According to investigators, Kumar and Dogra’s 12-year-old child made the call and provided critical information, allowing officers to reach the scene within minutes.

When police arrived, they discovered the bodies of the four adults inside the residence. Kumar’s vehicle was still parked in the driveway, raising concerns that the suspect was nearby. Officers deployed a K-9 unit to search the surrounding area, and a police dog successfully tracked Kumar to a nearby wooded area. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Investigators said the shooting stemmed from an argument between Kumar and Dogra that began earlier at their Atlanta home. The couple then traveled with their child to the Brook Ivy Court residence, where Dogra’s relatives—Gourav Cumar, Nidhi Chander, and Harish Chander—were staying along with two other children, ages seven and 10. During the confrontation, gunfire broke out, killing all four adults.

At the time of the shooting, three children, including Kumar’s 12-year-old and the two younger minors, reportedly hid inside a closet to avoid the violence. Police confirmed that the children were not physically harmed and have since been taken into the care of a family member.

The Gwinnett County Police Department has charged Vijay Kumar with four counts each of malice murder, felony murder, and aggravated assault. He also faces one count of first-degree cruelty to children and two counts of third-degree cruelty to children, reflecting the presence of minors during the attack.

The Indian Mission in Atlanta issued a statement expressing deep grief over the tragedy and confirmed that it is providing all possible assistance to the bereaved family. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing as the community reels from the devastating loss.
