El Al Israel Airlines on Thursday (23) said it would resume flights to India in October citing reduced flight times due to the ability to use the airspace of Saudi Arabia and Oman, Reuters reported.

The resumption would mean the carrier would fly planes to the South Asian nation after a gap of three years.

The Israeli flag carrier will operate four flights in a week to India’s financial capital Mumbai from Tel Aviv using Boeing 737, with the flying time expected to be five-and-half hours, down from seven-and-half previously, the report added.

The airlines will also fly weekly to New Delhi twice using the larger Boeing 777 or 787 jets. According to El Al, the flight time on that route will go down to six-and-half hours from nine.

“The launch of the new routes is now possible following the recently received approval to fly over the skies of Saudi Arabia and Oman,” El Al was quoted as saying by Reuters.

In February, Oman joined Saudi to allow Israeli civilian overflights and El Al has been using the new route on flights to Asian destinations.

India is popular with Israel’s tourists and businessmen.
