Jamal Roberts has officially been crowned the winner of American Idol 2025, following an electrifying finale on Sunday (18) that set a new voting record with more than 26 million votes, twice as many as last year.
Host Ryan Seacrest made the thrilling announcement after a night full of memorable performances and emotional moments. Stunned and overcome with emotion, Roberts was met with roaring applause and praise from viewers nationwide.
The finale saw Roberts go head-to-head with fellow finalists Breanna Nix and John Foster. Texas-based stay-at-home mom Nix was the first to be eliminated in the grand finale, leaving Roberts and Foster in the top two.
The physical education teacher and father of three earned the top spot in Season 23 after receiving a record-breaking 26 million votes during the May 18 finale. He triumphed over fellow finalists John Foster and Breanna Nix to claim the coveted title.
Roberts, overwhelmed by the historic win, took to Instagram and shared, “I’m still trying to process this… God is so good.” His emotional journey, marked by powerful performances and genuine charm, resonated with millions of viewers across the nation.

However, it was Roberts’ commanding stage presence and vocal versatility that won over the nation. His rendition of “First Time” during the finale showcased emotional depth and technical mastery, which drew admiration from the judges. Underwood praised his comfort and ease on stage—a confidence that resonated with voters.
One of the show’s most talked-about moments came when Roberts teamed up with Jelly Roll for a genre-blending duet of “Liar” and “Unpretty.” The performance was raw, soulful, and widely shared across social media, with fans calling it one of the best collaborations in the show’s history.
Jamal first impressed judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and guest mentor Carrie Underwood with a soulful rendition of Rick James’ “Mary Jane.” In an April 2025 interview with Billboard, he revealed his musical roots began in church at age two, heavily influenced by his faith and family. “My granddaddy was a bishop, and my other grandad was a deacon. I was in church every time the doors opened,” he said.
He currently teaches at Crestwood Elementary, but always dreamed of pursuing music professionally. Jamal often draws inspiration from legends like The Temptations and Michael Jackson.
A proud family man, Jamal is married, though his wife keeps a private profile. The couple shares three daughters—Harmoni (6), Lyrik (4), and Gianna Grace, who was born just before his Top 8 performance in April 2025. Roberts frequently shares heartfelt moments with his daughters on social media, offering fans a glimpse into his life beyond the stage.
