INDIA'S Jet Airways is near a deal to buy 50 A220 jets from Airbus, two people familiar with the matter said.
The airline's board was expected to meet on Monday to finalise the deal.
"We are in an advanced stage of discussions with lessors and OEMs (manufacturers) for aircraft, and we will announce our aircraft choice and fleet plans as we make our decisions," a spokesperson for Jet Airways said.
"As we have said before, we are studying all possibilities to find the one that works best for us."
Airbus declined to comment.

US stocks moved lower on Thursday (5), extending a volatile stretch for markets as investors weighed mounting concerns about artificial intelligence alongside new economic data pointing to a softening labor market.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell about 420 points, or 0.85 per cent. The S&P 500 slid 0.9 per cent, while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 1 per cent, putting the tech-heavy index on pace for its worst three-day decline since April. The Nasdaq is now more than 5.5 per cent below its most recent record high, set in October.

Despite lower sales, Tesla reported an improvement in profitability at the gross level. Gross profit increased to $5.01 billion, and gross margin expanded to 20.1 percent, up from 16.3 per cent in the same period last year.

Tesla reported lower revenue and earnings for both the fourth quarter and the full year of 2025, reflecting a slowdown in vehicle sales that outweighed strong growth in its energy generation and storage business.
For the three months ended December 31, Tesla posted total revenue of $24.90 billion, down 3 per cent from a year earlier. Automotive revenue declined 11 per cent to $17.69 billion, driven by weaker deliveries and pricing pressures. That decline was partially offset by a 25 per cent jump in energy generation and storage revenue, which rose to $3.84 billion, and an 18 per cent increase in services and other revenue to $3.37 billion.
