A veteran actor who rejects Hollywood’s youth fixation
Linda Hamilton, 69, is preparing for her debut in the final season of Stranger Things, but the longtime screen star is making something else clear: she has no interest in trying to look younger. Speaking to AARP’s Movies for Grownups, Hamilton says she accepts her appearance without hesitation and refuses to engage with the industry’s familiar pressures.
“I do not spend a moment trying to look younger on any level, ever,” she says in the interview. She adds that her face reflects the life she has lived, and she has no desire to alter it.
Her stance stands out in a business known for its pursuit of youth. Hamilton, who became a global action icon through the Terminator franchise, points out that her focus is on strength and mobility, not cosmetic change.

Preparing for Stranger Things with a disciplined routine
Hamilton appears in season five as Dr. Kay, a military scientist working inside quarantined Hawkins. While she keeps the character details to a minimum, she confirms Dr. Kay continues threads tied to Dr. Brenner’s work.
To take on the role, Hamilton maintains a training schedule built around Pilates, yoga, weights, and resistance equipment. She works out three times a week, choosing sessions based on what her body needs rather than following strict muscle-group days. The actor says the variety keeps her grounded and physically prepared.
Hamilton was already a fan of the Netflix series, and she recalls being thrilled when she received the offer. “I couldn’t wait to tell people,” she says.
Life in New Orleans and a commitment to simplicity
Away from sets, Hamilton lives in New Orleans, where she says she has found a healthier rhythm. She describes herself as a minimalist, keeping her life simple so she can stay organized and avoid unnecessary stress. “I’ve found a great balance between work and life,” she says. “I feel like everything is a blessing right now.”
She also reflects on more personal subjects in the full interview, including performing stunts and the loss of her twin sister.
The final chapter of a global hit
Season five of Stranger Things is spread across three releases: Volume 1 on November 26, Volume 2 on Christmas, and the finale on New Year’s Eve. Hamilton joins the cast as the series concludes its long run as one of Netflix’s most successful titles.
