- Actor to make his directorial debut under the RK banner
- Plan aims to honour Raj Kapoor’s legacy and rebuild the iconic brand
Kapoor family legacy returns to spotlight
Ranbir Kapoor is reportedly preparing to relaunch RK Studios, the iconic banner founded by his grandfather, Raj Kapoor. The move is seen as an effort to preserve and revive the Kapoor family's storied cinematic legacy, media reports say.
The Chembur studio, originally established in 1948, was acquired by Godrej Properties in 2019. The revival plans are expected to begin with rebuilding the RK Films brand before setting up a new physical space in Mumbai.
Directorial debut planned
Alongside the relaunch, Ranbir is expected to step behind the camera for the first time. Reports suggest he will make his directorial debut under the RK banner and collaborate with familiar names from his film career, including Deepika Padukone and filmmaker Ayan Mukerji.

As part of the broader revival plan, three projects are said to be in development at RK Films, including Ranbir's first film as director.
Focus on rebuilding brand before new studio
According to Mid-day, the focus currently lies in re-establishing the RK Films identity rather than rushing into building a new studio space. The long-term vision reportedly includes a new headquarters with office facilities and a screening theatre.
Busy slate ahead
Ranbir recently spoke about his wish to direct during his birthday in September. For now, he continues work on major acting commitments, including Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War.
