THE Reserve Bank of India on Wednesday (12) said it will soon issue ₹50 denomination banknotes bearing the signature of Governor Sanjay Malhotra.
Malhotra assumed office in December 2024 replacing Shaktikanta Das who demitted office after the completion of his extended term.
"The design of these notes is similar in all respects to ₹50 banknotes in Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series," the RBI said in a statement.
All banknotes in the denomination of ₹50 issued by the Reserve Bank in the past will continue to be legal tender. (PTI)

Senior US lawmakers are pressing the Trump administration to further tighten export controls on advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment destined for China, citing growing national security concerns.
In a bipartisan letter sent Tuesday (10), House Select Committee on China Chairman John Moolenaar and House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Brian Mast called on Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick to implement broader, countrywide restrictions on critical chipmaking tools. They warned that existing gaps in export controls are allowing China to accelerate its domestic semiconductor ambitions.

Bangladesh is set to sharply reduce its reliance on Indian cotton and instead source more raw material from the United States, following a newly signed US-Bangladesh trade agreement that Dhaka’s interim government has described as a 'game changer' for its export-driven textile industry.
Under the deal, finalized on Monday (9), the United States will cut tariffs on Bangladeshi garment exports to 19 percent, with a provision allowing duties to fall to zero if manufacturers switch to US-origin cotton or manmade fiber. The clause has immediately raised concerns among Indian apparel and yarn exporters, for whom Bangladesh is one of the most important overseas markets.

US stocks moved lower on Thursday (5), extending a volatile stretch for markets as investors weighed mounting concerns about artificial intelligence alongside new economic data pointing to a softening labor market.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell about 420 points, or 0.85 per cent. The S&P 500 slid 0.9 per cent, while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 1 per cent, putting the tech-heavy index on pace for its worst three-day decline since April. The Nasdaq is now more than 5.5 per cent below its most recent record high, set in October.
