Clearing the air

Weeks after Selena Gomez married music producer Benny Blanco in California, fans noticed the absence of one key figure: actress Francia Raisa. Raisa, 37, who donated a kidney to Gomez in 2017 following the singer’s lupus diagnosis, spoke out in a recently resurfaced interview filmed at a bookstore before Gomez’s nuptials.

In the interview, Raisa addressed speculation about a feud, stressing that her donation came with no expectations. Speaking in Spanish, she said through translated subtitles, “I know she’s getting married, and I’m very happy for her. And look… she has a life and she is already a billionaire and I am grateful that I could do that for her.”

On donation and public speculation

Raisa compared organ donation to a financial gift, noting that there is no obligation to follow up on how it is used. “From the beginning the doctors told me, it’s a donation,” she explained. “If you are going to donate a dollar to St. Jude or somewhere else, you’re not going to call to say, ‘Hey, what are you doing with my dollar?’ It’s a donation and it’s something nice that I was able to do.” She added, “I am grateful that I am alive and I can say that I have saved a life.”

Over the years, media speculation suggested Raisa was upset over Gomez’s lifestyle choices post-transplant. Raisa dismissed these claims, calling them “nonsense” and saying she had never publicly commented on the matter.

Keeping friendship private

Raisa emphasized that the details of their friendship remain private, despite public scrutiny. “No one knows what’s going on, and neither she nor I are talking about it,” she said. “One day, maybe we will address it.” Her comments provide clarity while reinforcing that their bond remains personal and outside the media spotlight.
