Shah Rukh Khan's highly anticipated film King has hit a temporary production hurdle after its planned shooting schedule in Dubai was canceled due to escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia. Despite the setback, the filmmakers have acted quickly to keep the project on track by shifting the shoot to Mumbai.
Directed by Siddharth Anand, King is an action thriller that had lined up a key desert sequence in Dubai. The sequence was expected to feature Shah Rukh Khan alongside his daughter Suhana Khan and veteran actor Anil Kapoor. According to reports, the production team had already secured all required permissions and was preparing for a week-long shoot starting in early April.
However, the evolving situation in the region, linked to tensions involving the United States and Iran, prompted the filmmakers to reconsider their plans. Prioritizing the safety of the cast and crew, the decision was made to cancel the Dubai schedule entirely.
Industry sources indicate that the production team chose not to take any risks amid uncertainty in the region. While the Dubai shoot was expected to provide an authentic desert backdrop, safety concerns outweighed the benefits of filming on location.
To adapt, the makers have shifted the sequences to Mumbai, where an elaborate desert set is being constructed in a studio in Vile Parle. The recreated environment aims to match the scale and visual impact originally envisioned for the Dubai shoot. In fact, insiders suggest that shooting in a controlled studio setting may offer greater flexibility in managing complex action scenes, lighting, and choreography.
The desert sequence is said to be one of the film's most important action set pieces. It reportedly begins with a high-speed chase that escalates into an intense combat sequence. By moving the shoot to Mumbai, the filmmakers can excercise tighter control over technical elements, potentially enhancing the overall execution.
Despite the last-minute change in location, the production timeline for King remains unaffected. The team's quick response highlights its ability to navigate unexpected global challenges without compromising on quality or schedule.
King marks a major collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and Siddharth Anand following the success of their blockbuster Pathaan. The film also carries added significance as it features Suhana Khan sharing screen space with her father in a major theatrical release for the first time.
The movie boasts a star-studded ensemble cast, including Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Jaideep Ahlawat, Saurabh Shukla, Abhay Verma, and Raghav Juyal.
While the canceled Dubai schedule represents a short-term disruption, the production continues at full pace in India. With its ambitious scale, strong cast, and high expectations, King remains one of the most awaited Indian films, and the shift in shooting plans has done little to dampen excitement among fans.
