Representative Tom Suozzi has been appointed Democratic vice-chair of the bipartisan Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans, a key group that works to strengthen ties between the United States and India. The announcement was made by caucus chairman Ro Khanna, who highlighted Suozzi’s long-standing engagement with the Indian American community and his efforts to deepen relations between Washington and New Delhi.

Suozzi’s appointment places him in a significant leadership position on Capitol Hill, where he will help guide discussions and initiatives related to U.S.-India cooperation. A long-time member of the caucus, he has been actively involved in fostering diplomatic, cultural, and economic connections between the two countries.

Over the years, Suozzi has undertaken multiple visits to India as part of his outreach efforts. Notably, he became the first sitting member of the US Congress to visit the Kartarpur Corridor, a significant religious corridor connecting Sikh pilgrimage sites across the India-Pakistan border. His visit was seen as a symbolic step in promoting cultural understanding and international engagement.

Suozzi represents a district that includes parts of Long Island and Queens in New York, areas known for their large and vibrant Indian American population. His close ties with the community have been a key aspect of his political work, and his new role is expected to further strengthen these relationships.

Reacting to the appointment, Suozzi expressed gratitude and pride. He said he was honored to serve as vice-chair and emphasized his commitment to supporting the Indian American community and enhancing the partnership between the United States and India.
