A rare reunion that lit up Diwali
The Viva Girls are back, at least for one evening. India’s first mainstream all-girl pop band reunited when four of its members, Neha Bhasin, Mahua Kamat, Pratichee Mohapatra, and Anushka Manchanda, came together at a recent Diwali celebration.
Photos from the gathering, shared by Pratichee Mohapatra on Instagram, quickly went viral. Captioning her post, “Diwali came in early with my girls. We do this soon again, my patakhas,” she sparked a wave of nostalgia across social media platforms.
Fans relive early 2000s nostalgia
The reunion sent longtime fans down memory lane, with many recalling Viva’s short but iconic run between 2002 and 2005. One fan wrote, “Omg... my favs together again — just took me back to those golden days.” Another commented that the pictures “gave them nostalgic goosebumps.”
Actor Sarah Jane Dias also joined the conversation, calling the reunion “such a beautiful blast from the past.”
India’s first pop girl band that broke barriers
Formed in 2002 through a reality show, Viva became a cultural phenomenon with chart-topping hits like Jaago Zara and Hum Naye Geet Sunaye. The band’s energetic sound, synchronized choreography, and bold image inspired a generation of young women in the early 2000s.
Though Viva disbanded in 2005, its members went on to pursue successful individual careers. Neha Bhasin carved a niche in Bollywood playback singing and later appeared on Bigg Boss OTT and Bigg Boss Season 15, while Anushka Manchanda became known for her independent music and creative work in film and fashion.
A glimmer of hope for a comeback
Fans are already hoping this reunion could lead to a musical collaboration or new project. While none of the members have hinted at a revival, the outpouring of love reflects how strongly Viva’s legacy still resonates.
For many, this festive reunion wasn’t just about Diwali — it was a reminder of an era when Indian pop music was at its most experimental and joyful.
