A US-based travel vlogger has gone viral after sharing her experience in Kochi, Kerala, where she challenged common global stereotypes about cleanliness in India. Her video, posted on Instagram, highlights her observations of clean streets, organized food practices, and modern public transport.
The vlogger, Chloe Jade, directly addressed a widely held perception. “People say that India is dirty, but for me, this is not dirty. Now, let’s start with the sidewalks and the roads. Things are very clean. There’s no trash, and the sidewalk is literally spotless,” she said in the video.
During her stay in Kochi, she pointed out that public spaces appeared well-maintained and hygienic. She also noted how street food vendors followed clean practices. According to her, people were using gloves while serving food, and the meals looked fresh and healthy. She even shared her experience trying dosa, describing it as “absolutely amazing.”
Another aspect that impressed her was Kochi’s water metro system. She described it as a fully electric ferry service and appreciated both its cleanliness and the passengers' behavior. “It’s a ferry on the water. It’s completely electric, and when you see inside, you won’t be asking yourself, why do people say that India is dirty? Take a look at this. People are respecting each other’s space,” she said.
In her caption, Jade explained that this was her second visit to India, with both trips taking place eight years apart. She acknowledged that while some areas in the country may struggle with cleanliness, it is unfair to generalize the entire nation. Her message was clear: India cannot be defined by a single narrative.
The video quickly gained attention online and sparked strong reactions from viewers. While many appreciated her positive perspective, others used the opportunity to compare different regions of the country. This led to a “North India vs South India” debate in the comments section.
Some users argued that Kerala stands out for its cleanliness and civic sense, suggesting that other parts of India may not offer the same experience. Others claimed that southern states generally maintain better infrastructure and public behavior compared to northern regions. A few comments described North India as more chaotic, while praising the South for being more organized.
At the same time, several users pushed back against these comparisons, saying that every region in India has its own strengths and challenges. They emphasized that judging an entire region based on limited experiences can be misleading.
The viral video has once again highlighted how travel experiences can shape global perceptions. It also shows how social media can quickly turn a personal observation into a broader cultural debate.
