AAHOA’s 4th Annual HerOwnership Conference, held September 11–12 at the Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island, shined a spotlight on the power and potential of women in hotel ownership and leadership.

This two-day, women-led event brought together female hoteliers from across the country to share insights, learn, and build connections. The conference theme, “Guiding Light: Leading with Strength, Shining with Purpose,” underscored its focus on equipping women with the tools, strategies, and confidence to thrive as leaders in hospitality.

Educational sessions covered topics such as sustainable hotel operations, marketing and storytelling, and using artificial intelligence for women entrepreneurs. Sponsored masterclasses and sessions highlighted innovative financing strategies and property claim resolution.

“Women hoteliers are essential forces in today’s hospitality industry,” said AAHOA Chairman Kamalesh (KP) Patel. “HerOwnership is not just about inspiration — it’s about giving women the resources and networks to take control of their futures.” Hilton Head Island Mayor Alan Perry marked the occasion by officially proclaiming September 11–12 as AAHOA HerOwnership Days, recognizing the growing influence of women in the sector.

Keynote speaker Dr. Amy Diehl, author of GLASS WALLS, addressed the barriers women face in leadership and offered actionable strategies to overcome them. AAHOA President & CEO Laura Lee Blake emphasized the urgency of closing the gap, noting that women represent over 50% of the hospitality workforce but hold less than 10% of hotel ownership roles.

Attendees described the event as both practical and empowering, blending hands-on learning with community connection. “HerOwnership continues to inspire women to take their next step in ownership and leadership,” said Arti Patel, AAHOA Women Hoteliers Director, Western Division.
