Hrithik wants to break away from his on-screen image

Hrithik Roshan has hinted that he is ready to move beyond the clean-cut heroes that have defined much of his career.

The actor shared the thought in an Instagram post from Paris, where he posted a nighttime selfie with the Eiffel Tower in the background. Alongside the image, Hrithik reflected on a recent conversation about the kind of role he hopes to play next.

His answer pointed to a growing desire to explore characters with more flaws and complexity.

The character he still wants to revisit

According to Hrithik, the role that immediately came to mind was Zaffar, the charismatic movie star he played in Luck By Chance.

The actor said he would jump at the opportunity to take on a similar role again, adding that filmmakers generally only want to cast him as the "good guy" — something he admitted leaves him disappointed.

Although Zaffar appeared only briefly in the 2009 film, the character remains one of Hrithik's most celebrated performances. Directed by Zoya Akhtar, Luck By Chance featured Farhan Akhtar and Konkona Sen Sharma in the lead roles, alongside a strong ensemble cast.

One of the first people to react to Hrithik's post was Zoya Akhtar.

The filmmaker responded with a playful suggestion that the two meet for coffee, a comment that quickly caught the attention of fans. While there is no indication of a new collaboration, the exchange sparked discussion about whether Hrithik could once again step into a role that challenges his established image.

His comments also reflect a broader conversation about typecasting, with many leading actors often becoming associated with a particular screen persona.

New challenges on and off screen

Since making his debut with Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, Hrithik has built a reputation as one of Bollywood's most bankable stars, often playing heroic and larger-than-life characters.

The actor is now preparing for a different challenge: directing. He is set to make his directorial debut with Krrish 4, while also reprising his role in the superhero franchise.

In addition, Hrithik is entering the streaming space as a producer with Storm, a Mumbai-set thriller being developed for Prime Video.

But for many fans, his latest comments raised a more intriguing possibility — that one of Bollywood's biggest stars may be looking for a chance to embrace his darker side on screen.
