Kardashian responds to public criticism
Kim Kardashian, 44, addressed the backlash over her daughter North’s fashion choice during an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast with Alex Cooper. The reality star said she is asking the public for understanding as a parent raising four children largely on her own.
“I think like any mom of a teenager or a preteen, unless you've been here, like, please, we just need a little bit of grace,” Kardashian said. She added that she is doing her best and encouraged others not to judge single parents navigating preteen challenges.
The outfit that sparked debate
The criticism arose after North West, 12, was photographed in Rome wearing a corset-style top paired with a skirt and sporting blue hair. Kardashian explained that North usually dresses in a tomboy style but wanted to experiment with a trend her friends were following.
“It’s interesting because all the kids are wearing similar things, but then my daughter tries it, and we made that mistake in front of the whole world,” Kardashian said. She stressed that she and North are learning together through these experiences.
Supporting creativity and confidence
Kardashian emphasized that North is allowed to explore her creativity freely. “She does listen to me, but in other areas, I’m like, ‘Babe, if you want blue hair, it is what it is.’ It makes her so happy. I would never take that creative away from her,” Kardashian explained.
She noted that North handles public criticism well, showing confidence and maturity. “She’s so creative, and she’s really amazing. She’ll be like, ‘Mom, I saw this, and I don’t really care if someone says they don’t like my blue hair,’” Kardashian said.
Close parent-child relationship
Kardashian shares four children with ex-husband Kanye West: North, Chicago, Saint, and Psalm. She described her bond with North as especially close, saying she values being involved in her daughter’s creative pursuits, from experimenting with hair color to spending long hours in the music studio.
“If her rebellion is dyeing her hair and wearing whatever, but she’s my bestie and being so close – I’d rather my girl be with me and experiment with every hair color,” Kardashian said. “I also nurture her creative side and want that for her.”
