Suspect detained after shots fired
Police in California say gunfire was directed at a mansion owned by pop star Rihanna in Beverly Hills on Sunday afternoon.
Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department responded to reports of shots fired at around 1:15 p.m. local time. Authorities later located a suspect and took her into custody.
According to a police official cited by CBS News, assault rifle casings were discovered at the scene. Investigators say the suspect, believed to be a woman in her 30s, stopped her vehicle outside the property and fired seven shots before driving away.
Her car was later found about eight miles from the home, where officers detained her. Police have not yet publicly released her identity.
Singer reportedly inside property
No injuries were reported in the incident. A law enforcement source told the Los Angeles Times that Rihanna was inside the mansion at the time the shots were fired.
Authorities have not said what may have prompted the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
A high-profile year for the star
The incident comes during a busy period in the singer’s personal life. Last September, Rihanna welcomed her third child, a daughter, with partner A$AP Rocky. The couple also share two sons, Riot Rose Mayers and RZA Athelston Mayers.
The couple had earlier revealed the pregnancy during an appearance at the Met Gala. Earlier in the year, A$AP Rocky was found not guilty in a high-profile trial over allegations that he fired a gun at a former friend.
Born Robyn Fenty in Barbados, the singer rose to global fame in the early 2000s with hits including Pon de Replay and Umbrella. She recently marked 20 years since releasing her debut album.
