Margot Robbie may lead and produce sci-fi classic remake
Margot Robbie is reportedly in early talks to take on the lead role in a remake of the cult sci-fi film Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, directed by Tim Burton, according to Variety. If the deal goes through, Robbie would also serve as a producer on the project via her production company, LuckyChap Entertainment.
LuckyChap, which Robbie runs alongside her husband Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara, has gained industry recognition following the global success of Barbie. The film’s acclaim led to a first-look deal with Warner Bros., making further collaborations between the studio and LuckyChap increasingly likely.
Script under development, Robbie’s role not yet confirmed
The project is currently without a writer, following the departure of Gillian Flynn, the Gone Girl author who was originally attached to pen the script. Flynn exited the project early in its development, and a new writer is now being sought.
Robbie’s potential role in the film is understood to be contingent on the final version of the screenplay.
Tim Burton and Warner Bros. reunite after box office success
Director Tim Burton, known for his distinctive visual style and gothic storytelling, is helming the project for Warner Bros. His 2024 release, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, was a major box office success, grossing over $450 million worldwide, and further cemented his relationship with the studio.
A reboot of Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, a 1958 cult favourite, marks another high-profile addition to Burton’s filmography and a potential leading role for Robbie post-Barbie.
Robbie’s upcoming work
Following her work on Barbie, Robbie has mostly focused on producing. She is next set to appear in Kogonada’s A Big Bold Beautiful Journey and Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of Wuthering Heights.
