Meet Shelly Oberoi, the new mayor of Delhi

Delhi’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday (22) won the city’s mayoral elections and its candidate Shelly Oberoi became the new mayor of the capital.

Oberoi, who has been involved with the AAP since 2014, is a former professor of Delhi University who won the Delhi civic body poll from the city’s East Patel Nagar ward last December. The AAP, led by Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, won the Delhi Municipal Corporation election, ending the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) 15-year dominance over the civic body.

The 39-year-old has studied management from Indian Institute of Management in Kozhikode, Kerala.

Oberoi, who was named the vice president of the AAP’s Mahila Morcha (women’s wing) in 2020, is a lifetime member of the Indian Commerce Association, according to her LinkedIn profile.

She did her doctorate from Indira Gandhi National Open University’s School of Management Studies.

Daughter of Satish Kumar, a businessman and Saroj, a homemaker, Oberoi also won several awards in different conferences. She also has a brother and sister.
