A 24-year-old Indian woman, Simran Simran, has gone missing in New Jersey just days after arriving in the United States for what was reportedly an arranged marriage. Simran landed in the US on June 20 and was reported missing on Thursday (26), according to Lindenwold police in Camden County. Her disappearance has raised concerns and prompted an ongoing investigation by local authorities.
Last Known Movements
Surveillance footage from the area captured Simran shortly after her arrival. The video shows her standing alone, checking her phone, and appearing to wait for someone. According to officers, she did not seem to be in any distress at the time. The footage represents the last confirmed sighting of Simran before she went missing.
Description and Identification
Simran is described as 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing approximately 150 pounds (68 kg), with a small scar on the left side of her forehead. At the time she was last seen, she was wearing grey sweatpants, a white T-shirt, black flip-flops, and diamond-studded earrings. Authorities have circulated her description and last known appearance widely in hopes of gathering leads from the public.
Communication and Search Challenges
One of the major challenges in the search for Simran is her limited ability to communicate. She does not speak English and was reportedly carrying only an international phone that functions solely through Wi-Fi. This has made it difficult for her to reach out for help or for authorities to contact her.
Additionally, she has no known relatives in the United States, and police have so far been unable to reach any family members in India for further information. Lindenwold police stated, “At this time there are no known family members in India to contact to obtain her possible whereabouts”.
Investigative Theories
While Simran reportedly traveled to the US for an arranged marriage, authorities are also considering alternative explanations. Investigators have not ruled out the possibility that the marriage proposal may have been used as a pretext to enter the country, with Simran potentially having no intention of marrying. However, no evidence of foul play has been established, and the investigation remains open to all possibilities.
Public Appeal and Ongoing Investigation
The Lindenwold Police Department has urged anyone with information about Simran’s whereabouts to come forward and contact Detective Joe Tomasetti. The case has drawn attention both in the US and India, with community members and advocacy groups sharing her details in hopes of locating her safely.
