It seems Rishi Sunak’s road to 10 Downing is getting tougher with each passing day. At a time when reports say that he is trailing Liz Truss, his contender in the UK prime ministerial race, the former British finance minister has come under the scanner for his lifestyle.

According to reports, the 42-year-old politician is spending almost £400,000 on a luxurious swimming pool in his mansion. The news has come when several parts of England are struggling against drought and severe heatwave and it is bound to add to the ammunition of Sunak’s critics.

The Independent reported about Sunak’s spending behind the new swimming pool at his mansion in North Yorkshire where Aksatha Murthy, his wife, and their two children spend their weekends.

According to another report by the Daily Mail, Sunak is also setting up a new gym and tennis courts.

Aerial footage has come up showing construction work for the pool is going on in full swing.

The news has caused an outrage on social media with many slamming Sunak over the pool when the country is coping with a severe water crisis. Moreover, this has also come at a time when several public swimming pools in the UK have been forced to shut down because of a growing energy crisis.

Recently, Murthy faced the social media’s ire after she was found serving tea to journalists at their residence in an expensive crockery.

Here are some reactions on Twitter over Sunak’s new swimming pool:
