- Trump claims Iran’s military capabilities have been severely weakened.
- Pentagon officials said the United States has “only just begun to fight.”
President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that the ongoing conflict with Iran could end soon, even as tensions remain high across the Middle East. Trump made the remarks during a news conference in Florida, where he also warned Tehran not to provoke the United States.
Trump said the military action was a limited operation that was necessary to prevent a larger threat. He described the conflict as a “short-term excursion” and suggested that the situation was already nearing its conclusion.
“It’s going to be ended soon, and if it starts up again they’ll be hit even harder,” Trump said while addressing reporters. He added that the United States had carried out the operation because it believed Iran posed an immediate danger.
According to Trump, the goal of the strikes was to eliminate key threats and weaken Iran’s military capabilities. He claimed that Iranian forces had lost much of their ability to carry out large-scale attacks.
Earlier, in an interview with CBS News, Trump said the conflict was “very complete” and warned Iran against taking any further hostile steps. He used strong language to caution Tehran that any new attack could lead to severe consequences.
“They’ve shot everything they have to shoot, and they better not try anything cute,” Trump said. He added that if Iran attempted another strike, the United States would respond decisively.
Trump also claimed that Iran’s military infrastructure had been heavily damaged. According to him, the country had lost major parts of its navy, communication systems, and air force.
The latest comments come after joint U.S. and Israeli military strikes carried out on February 28. Trump said the operation targeted Iranian missile launch sites and other strategic facilities.
He claimed that American and Israeli forces destroyed around 80 percent of Iran’s missile launchers during the operation. According to Trump, only a small number of launch systems remain operational.
Trump argued that the strikes were necessary because Iran was preparing for a large-scale attack. He said U.S. intelligence suggested Tehran was planning to target several locations in the region.
“If we didn’t go in, they would have come after us,” he said. “Within a week, they were going to attack us 100 percent.”
Trump also claimed Iran had been preparing to attack both Israel and other parts of the Middle East. He warned that the situation could have become much more dangerous if Iran had access to nuclear weapons.
“If they had a nuclear weapon, they would have used it on Israel,” he said, referring to the U.S. ally Israel.
Despite Trump’s comments suggesting the conflict may soon end, the United States Department of Defense indicated that military operations are still ongoing. A Pentagon statement released shortly before Trump’s remarks said the United States had “only just begun to fight.”
The situation remains tense, with governments across the Middle East closely watching developments. While Trump expressed confidence that the conflict could end quickly, it remains unclear how Iran will respond in the coming days.
