In a joyful display of cultural unity, two US mayors stole the spotlight at a Diwali celebration in North Carolina. Cary Mayor Harold Weinbrecht and Morrisville Mayor TJ Cawley joined the stage to dance to Bollywood songs, delighting the crowd and celebrating the festival with the Indian community.
The event organized by Hum Sub featured a performance by the Taal Harmony Dance Group. The mayors enthusiastically joined them on stage, matching steps and spreading smiles. The organizers later shared the video on Instagram, calling it “a celebration of togetherness and cultural pride.” They wrote that the dance symbolized how local leaders are embracing and celebrating the diversity that makes the Triangle area so special.
“Moments like these remind us that Diwali’s true light shines brightest when we celebrate as one community beyond borders and backgrounds,” the organizers added. Mayor TJ Cawley also posted about the event on social media, calling Hum Sub Diwali one of his favorite annual events. He said he enjoyed meeting youth award winners, performers, and families at the celebration despite the rain. “Looking forward to next year,” he wrote, sharing pictures and clips from the event.
The video quickly went viral, with social media users praising the mayors for their warmth and inclusivity. One user commented, “Had happy tears watching this. Thank you, mayors, for spreading love in your own unique way,” while another added, “The highlight every year, love this!”
