Rimi Sen, known for early-2000s hits like Hungama, Dhoom and Phir Hera Pheri, has built a new life away from the film industry. The actor, last seen in 2011’s Shagird, now lives in Dubai and works in real estate. On a recent podcast with Buildcaps Real Estate LLC, she explained why she chose business over Bollywood.
Why she stepped away from acting
Rimi described Bollywood as a male-dominated space where women’s careers tend to be shorter. She said men usually stay in power longer, pointing to Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, who have led films for more than 25 years.
She added that many actresses who once starred opposite them now play supporting roles or mothers. Seeing that pattern, she decided not to wait for her options to narrow.
Planning her exit early
Rimi said she always had a plan beyond acting. She wanted to work, save money and then move into other ventures. After leaving regular acting, she produced Budhia Singh in 2016, which won a National Award.
Soon after, she shifted fully into business. She said life feels more secure now because she is not dependent on camera time or waiting for roles.
Fans react to her new look
Many listeners liked her business sense, but much of the online reaction focused on her appearance. Several fans said she looked “unrecognisable” compared to her earlier films. Some praised her thinking but questioned what had changed about her face.
Her response to surgery rumours
In August 2024, when similar talk began, Rimi said she had not had plastic surgery. She said she has only had fillers, Botox and PRP treatment, and nothing more. If people think she looks different in a good way, she said she takes it as positive.
Life after Bollywood
Rimi also appeared on Bigg Boss 9 in 2015 and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 9 in 2016, but today her focus is on business, not films. She says she feels freer without the pressure of staying on screen.
