Highlights:

  • Microsoft will increase U.S. Xbox console prices in October due to the economic environment.
  • Accessories such as controllers and headsets will not see price changes.
  • It marks the second Xbox price hike in the U.S. this year.
  • Sony and Nintendo have also raised prices as tariffs introduced under President Trump take effect.

Microsoft announces price increase

Microsoft said on Friday it will raise the recommended retail price of several Xbox consoles in the United States beginning in October, citing “changes in the macroeconomic environment.”

The company noted that the price adjustments will not apply to accessories such as controllers and headsets. Prices in other countries will remain unchanged.

Tariff context

While Microsoft did not explicitly link the increase to tariffs, many consumer companies have warned that rising costs would be passed to customers. President Donald Trump has introduced tariffs this year targeting multiple countries, with the stated aim of shifting more manufacturing to the U.S.

“We understand that these changes are challenging, and they were made with careful consideration,” Microsoft said in a statement.

Previous and rival price hikes

This marks the second time in 2025 that Microsoft has raised Xbox prices in the U.S. Rival console makers Sony and Nintendo have also increased prices as tariffs came into effect earlier this year.
