Bollywood actor Yash has confirmed that the combined budget for both parts of Ramayana is approximately $480 million, addressing the debate sparked by producer Namit Malhotra’s earlier remarks about the scale of the ambitious Indian epic.
Speaking at the latest trailer launch event in Bengaluru, the actor, who plays Ravana in the upcoming two-part franchise, defended Malhotra’s decision to speak confidently about the project’s budget. Yash is also one of the film’s producers, alongside Malhotra.
As reported by The Hindu, Yash said the announcement had attracted considerable attention on social media because of how confidently it was presented.
“I know that Namit's statement went viral on social media. In India, there is a problem. People don't like it when you talk confidently. That's what happened with Namit's statement. But in the West, it's the total opposite. If you tell them we have made a good movie in a humble manner, they will dismiss our film as a small project. That's exactly why Namit has confidently said that this movie is mounted on ₹4,000 crore. We need to prove the strength of the Indian film industry to the global market,” Yash said.
He clarified that the figure covered both installments, including expenses beyond filming.
“Ramayana is a two-part project, and the budget for both the movies combined is definitely ₹4,000 crore. The budget includes post-production and promotional expenses as well.”
At approximately $480 million, the combined budget places Ramayana among the most ambitious Indian film productions, with its makers aiming to present the epic to audiences worldwide.
Yash asks fans to support Ramayana
Yash also thanked fans for their continued support and urged them to approach the upcoming film with confidence. Addressing the audience in Bengaluru, he said he would work toward delivering a performance that would make them proud.
The actor’s appeal comes as his other upcoming film, Toxic, has received mixed reactions. He assured fans that he was committed to making Ramayana an experience they could celebrate.
He also asked people in Karnataka to bless and support his upcoming projects.
