The actor, who plays Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari’s highly anticipated two-part epic, was previously reported to be receiving around ₹100 crore, approximately $11.9 million, for both installments. However, a new report claims Yash has instead chosen to take South Indian theatrical distribution rights for the films.
If accurate, the move would tie his earnings to how well Ramayana performs at the box office in the southern markets rather than giving him a fixed acting fee.
What is Yash reportedly getting instead?
According to a report by Sacnilk, Yash has opted out of the previously reported $11.9 million remuneration and chosen distribution rights across the South Indian markets as part of his deal.
The actor is also involved with the project as a co-producer through his production company, Monster Mind Creations.
Rather than taking a guaranteed payment for playing Ravana, Yash would reportedly have a direct stake in the film's theatrical business in southern India.
Why could the gamble pay off?
A fixed $11.9 million fee would give Yash a substantial guaranteed return. By choosing distribution rights instead, he is reportedly betting that Ramayana will become a major box-office success.
If the film performs strongly across southern markets, the arrangement could potentially generate returns beyond what he would have earned from the reported acting fee.
The deal also gives Yash a greater financial interest in the film's commercial performance, extending his involvement beyond his role on screen.
The reported deal comes after ‘Toxic’
The news comes shortly after Yash's latest release, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, saw a significant slowdown following its strong opening.
The film reportedly collected ₹101.10 crore net in India on its first day, or around $12.2 million, before its earnings dropped considerably over the following days. It was reported to have finished its first week with around ₹229.60 crore net in India, equivalent to approximately $27.7 million.
However, the reported change to Yash's Ramayana remuneration is not said to be connected to Toxic's box-office performance. Instead, it is reportedly part of the financial structure of the upcoming epic.
When is ‘Ramayana’ releasing?
Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana and Sunny Deol as Hanuman.
The film is being released in two parts. Ramayana: Part One is scheduled for a worldwide release on November 6, 2026, with its India release set for November 8. The second part is scheduled to arrive around Diwali 2027.
The reported distribution-rights arrangement has not been officially confirmed by Yash or the film's makers.
