Punjabi actor and singer Gippy Grewal, now preparing for the release of Carry on Jatta 4, has shared memories of his difficult early life in Canada. Speaking on comedian Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa’s vlog, he opened up about his long struggle before finding lasting success in music and films. Even after his first song became a hit, he says the real challenge was staying consistent and getting a second breakthrough.
Gippy described how life in Canada demanded constant hard work and survival jobs. He worked multiple shifts across different jobs just to support his family and keep his music dreams alive. His routine often stretched through the entire night and into the next day, leaving very little time for rest.
During the conversation, Gippy shared, “I had to struggle a lot till my second album. I used to do 3-4 jobs. By the time I returned home, it would be 4'o clock in the morning. Then, I would pick up wife from the house and the two of us would then go and distribute newspapers fornext two hours. Then I would sleep, and she would go to work. She would go to work at Subway at 6 am, work there till 4 pm, and then work as a security guard. Then she left that place and we took a cleaning contract at a mall."
Grewal went on to explain that these jobs were not unusual in Canada, but they were essential for survival during that phase of life. Both he and his wife worked different shifts, often crossing paths only briefly before heading to their next job.
Gippy added, “These are regular jobs there in Canada” and described how they would continue working through the day and evening. He said, “In the evening, we would go and work for 2-3 hours, picking trays from the food court would be her work and I did the cleaning. Then we would return. In other jobs, I would make 8 dollars, but in the mall cleaning job, I would get almost 13 dollars. These are regular jobs there. Here we think so many other things. Like with the newspapers, my wife and I would think that this is our time together. So we would keep talking the whole time and get done with that job in two hours. But that mall had a fixed time period and the security work demanded more hours.”
Despite the exhausting routine, Gippy says those years shaped his discipline and hunger for success. Today, he stands as one of the leading names in Punjabi entertainment, known for both acting and singing. His journey from struggle-filled Canadian immigrant life to stardom remains central to his identity.
