Steven Spielberg’s return to alien stories reaches Indian viewers this week after arriving on Peacock in the US. The film follows a whistleblower (Josh O’Connor) and a TV meteorologist (Emily Blunt) trying to stay ahead of a powerful, sinister group that has hidden evidence of extraterrestrial contact for decades.
Blunt’s character is a Kansas City meteorologist, and O’Connor’s is a tech whistleblower. Together, they find proof that aliens are living among us and end up pursued by a shadowy organization. David Koepp wrote the screenplay from a story by Spielberg.
The film was a major summer release. It opened in theaters on June 12 to mostly favorable reviews and earned $241.3 million worldwide, while Universal reportedly spent $115 million on production and $80 million on marketing. It also set a record for the biggest opening weekend for an original Spielberg film. Critics were divided, though: some praised Spielberg’s signature touch, while others felt it fell short of his classic work.

This four-part documentary covers the life and legacy of boxing legend Mike Tyson, from his rise to fame to the personal struggles and controversies that have shaped his public image.
Tyson’s story is one of the most dramatic in sports: a troubled Brooklyn childhood, becoming the youngest heavyweight champion in history, a prison sentence, financial ruin, and a late-career reinvention as a pop-culture personality.
The four-episode format leaves room to cover both the victories and the darker chapters, which makes this a strong pick for boxing fans and anyone who enjoys complex sports biographies.

Release date: October 14, 2026 (Episodes 1–2, then weekly)
Platform: Disney+ (US), JioHotstar (India)
Available regions: Global, launching at the same time worldwide
Language: English
Genre: Superhero, science fiction, drama

Marvel’s most anticipated Disney+ series in some time picks up a thread left hanging since 2021. In the WandaVision finale, the White Vision, originally built by S.W.O.R.D. to destroy Wanda, received the original Vision’s memories, declared “I am Vision” and flew off to an unknown location.
Now Vision (Paul Bettany) is hiding in plain sight, working at a bar in Edinburgh while trying to make sense of his restored memories. His therapy sessions become nightmares because of the AI personas living in his head, including Ultron (James Spader). Then a bounty forces him to go on the run with Tommy (Ruaridh Mollica), a teenager who may be his reincarnated son.
The heart of the series is the bond between Vision and Ultron. Spader has described their relationship as a “sort of father-son-therapist-psychopath” dynamic and called Ultron one of the series’ driving forces, alongside Vision and Tommy. After the two-episode premiere, the remaining six episodes will release weekly until November 11. The series concludes the trilogy that began with WandaVision and continued with Agatha All Along, with Terry Matalas (Star Trek: Picard) as showrunner.

Ethan Hawke returns as the Tulsa “truthstorian” whose investigations keep getting him into trouble. Lee Raybon is finally getting recognition for his journalism, which means everything is about to fall apart. A missing prisoner sends him chasing a corruption-soaked mystery with public defender Ginger (Betty Gilpin), while his teenage daughter needs more of his attention.
Then his estranged father, Lee Sr. (Tommy Lee Jones), turns up, and Lee has to explain why he told everyone Grandpa was dead.
The new season keeps the loose mix of noir and comedy that made Season 1 a critical favorite. Adding Tommy Lee Jones raises the stakes on the family side, layering a father-son reckoning on top of the corruption plot.

Available regions: Global, exclusively on Prime Video
Language: English
Genre: Romance, drama
Runtime: 1 hour 46 minutes

Margaret Qualley plays Maya, a sharp, emotionally guarded Boston ER nurse whose chance meeting with Charlie (Gabriel Basso) turns into an intense romance and a spontaneous marriage. When that future suddenly falls apart, Maya is pushed in an unexpected direction and has to rethink who she is, what she wants and how to love again.
The film is directed by Rachel Morrison and written by Julia Cox (Nyad). Ryan Gosling is among the producers. The A.V. Club gave it a B- and noted that each time it seems to settle into convention, it veers somewhere unexpected, playing more like a character study of Maya than a traditional romance.
After its TIFF premiere in September, the film had a limited theatrical release beginning October 7, so there is no meaningful box office performance to report ahead of its streaming debut.

Platform: Peacock
Available regions: United States
Language: English
Genre: Horror, slasher, drama

If slasher horror is your thing, this is one of the week’s biggest releases. In the original 1980 Friday the 13th, Pamela Voorhees was the killer, taking revenge on camp staff after her special needs son drowned in Crystal Lake while counselors weren’t paying attention. This A24-produced prequel tells her story.
Nearly a year after Jason drowns, Pamela (Linda Cardellini) is still consumed by grief. Working as the camp’s lunch lady in the 1970s, she tries to carry on until two strangers start digging into her past. What follows is her descent from grieving mother to the franchise’s original killer.
This version of Pamela is described as a mother who gave up a singing career to raise a special needs child before turning dark after losing him. Brad Caleb Kane (It: Welcome to Derry) serves as writer and showrunner. Expect a more character-driven slow burn than a pure body-count series, with the franchise’s signature kills still in the mix.

Platform: Netflix
Available regions: United States and France
Language: English
Genre: Satirical thriller, dark comedy
Runtime: 1 hour 40 minutes
Chris Evans and Anya Taylor-Joy lead the week’s most unusual film. After their mother dies in a fire, Joan (Taylor-Joy) and her siblings come to believe, guided by a mysterious volcanic prophecy, that they are destined to purify the Earth. Their radical group takes over a lavish charity gala and seizes three hostages to sacrifice: movie star Mike Tyler (Evans) as the hero, ruthless billionaire Ben Bracken (Vincent Cassel) as the villain and unlucky gala performer Katie (Ambika Mod) as the lover.
The environmental gala is held inside a Greek mine. Joan’s followers believe a catastrophe will wipe out humanity in three days unless the three are thrown into a volcano. The film was shot in Greece, Bulgaria and Iceland.
Director Romain Gavras (Athena) told Tudum that viewers should treat the film like a ride and let themselves go, warning of plenty of rug pulls. He cited inspirations ranging from Greek myths and Joan of Arc to The Lord of the Rings. Netflix acquired the US rights after the film’s world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, so there is no theatrical box office to report.

Ghostface returns, and this time Sidney Prescott’s family is in the crosshairs. Paramount credited original writer Kevin Williamson, who directed this installment, along with Neve Campbell, breakout star Isabel May and legacy star Courteney Cox.
The film was a box office success. It opened to $64.1 million domestically and $97.2 million worldwide on a $45 million budget, despite the worst reviews of the series and a B- CinemaScore. It became the first Scream film to pass $200 million worldwide, topping the original’s $173 million.
Expect the franchise formula of an opening kill, taunting phone calls, a whodunit full of suspects and plenty of meta commentary. Its 33 percent Rotten Tomatoes score is the lowest in the series, so treat it as Halloween popcorn entertainment.

Tenzing
Release date: October 16, 2026
Platform: Apple TV
Available regions: Global, streaming worldwide on Apple TV
Language: English
Genre: Biographical drama, adventure

This is one of the week’s most significant English-language films. Based on true events, it tells the lesser-known story of Tenzing Norgay (Genden Phuntsok), the gifted Himalayan climber who, alongside New Zealand mountaineer Edmund Hillary (Tom Hiddleston), was the first to summit Mount Everest.
Encouraged by his wife Dawa (Thinley Lhamo), Tenzing finds an ally in expedition secretary Jill Henderson (Caitríona Balfe). Together, they convince Colonel John Hunt (Willem Dafoe) that Tenzing should be a full member of the British climbing team, not just someone who serves it. Where the Western climbers see Everest as something to conquer, Tenzing reveres it as Chomolungma, the sacred mother goddess. The climb is shaped as much by tensions of background, class and ambition as by the dangers of the mountain.
Director Jennifer Peedom previously made the 2015 documentary Sherpa, and the script is by Luke Davies (Lion). The film premiered at Telluride on September 4 and opened in US theaters on October 9. The theatrical release was extremely limited, which suggests Apple sees it as a serious awards contender for 2027. No box office figures have been reported.

Language: Japanese
Genre: Anime, action, fantasy
Episodes: 19
The early chapters of Dragon Ball Super get a full overhaul in this enhanced series. Toei describes it as an improved version of the original anime, with better animation and sound, redrawn scenes and a “reconstructed narrative.”
The new version cuts the filler from the original TV run and combines the Beerus, Frieza Revival and Universe 6 Tournament arcs into one faster-paced series. Masako Nozawa and Koichi Yamadera return as Goku and Beerus, the God of Destruction who wakes up looking for a worthy opponent.
Netflix’s US premiere comes six days after the Japanese TV debut on Fuji TV on October 11. It is a good entry point for newcomers and a chance for longtime fans to see the early arcs, which were criticized for their animation when they first aired, done properly.
