Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia’s The Vvaan has received a harsh review, with critic Shubhra Gupta describing the fantasy film as “pure torture”.
The film follows a Mumbai-based engineer and his wife who travel to a village to deal with a property matter connected to a forest believed to be haunted. What begins as a family dispute soon turns into a supernatural battle involving spirits, deities and dark folklore.
Gupta’s review, however, found little to praise, arguing that the film fails to recover after its opening scenes.

Sidharth plays an engineer who approaches the supernatural elements around him with scepticism, while his family continues to believe in local traditions and folklore.
He and his wife, played by Tamannaah, travel to a village where his elder brother and sister-in-law live. Their property concerns lead them towards a forest that is central to the film’s supernatural story.
The film then introduces divine beings, evil spirits, supernatural creatures and a local land dispute.
Gupta criticised what she described as the film’s mix of fantasy and folklore, questioning the logic behind several developments in the story.
