Tom Cruise, one of Hollywood’s most enduring action stars, has no intention of retiring anytime soon. At 62, the actor says he plans to continue making films until he reaches his 100s — and if his current lifestyle is anything to go by, it might just happen.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Cruise revealed, “Actually, I’m going to make them into my 100s. I will never stop. I will never stop doing action. I will never stop doing drama, comedy films — I’m excited.” His passion and energy remain boundless, especially with the release of Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, the eighth film in the franchise, where he tackles daring stunts like scuba diving and wing walking.
What’s the secret to his seemingly ageless vitality? It’s not just good genes or expensive treatments. Cruise told Men’s Health in 2023 that he maintains his youth through an eclectic mix of physical activities: “Sea-kayaking, caving, fencing, treadmill, weights, rock climbing, hiking… I jog… I do so many different activities.”
Interestingly, these habits mirror those of centenarians — people who live to 100 and beyond. Experts on healthy aging and longevity often cite activity, curiosity, and mental engagement as key pillars of a long life. A 2023 study published in the Journal of Happiness Studies, based on interviews with 19 individuals aged 100 to 107, identified traits such as remaining active, staying curious, and taking responsibilities seriously as common denominators.
Cruise seems to embody all of these. Not only does he keep physically fit, but he’s also constantly challenging himself with new roles, high-octane stunts, and a never-fading enthusiasm for storytelling.
And while not everyone has Cruise’s resources, longevity experts emphasize that a healthy, active lifestyle can be accessible to all. British centenarian Joyce Preston, who turned 100 in March 2025, shared that her daily routine includes yoga, gentle movement, and regular walks. Similarly, John Tinniswood, who lived to 112, credited lifelong learning and doing his best in everything as keys to a fulfilling life.
Nutrition also plays a crucial role. Diets rich in whole grains, legumes, fish, fruits, vegetables, and nuts have been shown to potentially add up to 10 years to one’s life, according to a 2022 study. Avoiding processed foods and maintaining balance in physical activity — including cardio and resistance training — can also stave off chronic illness, experts say.
Cruise’s commitment to movement, exploration, and pushing personal limits echoes the wisdom of the world’s longest-living individuals. His path forward, if anything, seems paved with purpose, resilience, and a childlike zest for life. Making movies into the 2060s might not be such a far-fetched mission after all.
