Avengers: Doomsday has made an explosive start at the box office months ahead of its theatrical release, generating more than $10 million in advance ticket sales within just 12 hours. The impressive figure comes despite tickets being available only in select premium theaters, highlighting the enormous anticipation surrounding Marvel Studios' next Avengers installment.
The surge in pre-sales began shortly after Marvel unveiled the film's first trailer on Monday, officially launching its theatrical campaign. At the same time, Disney opened advance bookings for Infinity Vision, its newly introduced premium large-screen format, at a limited number of theaters across the United States.
According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the film earned $10.5 million in advance bookings during the first 12 hours of sales. Notably, only about 10 per cent of the total available screens have gone on sale so far, making the achievement even more remarkable. The strong early demand suggests the film is well-positioned for one of the biggest opening weekends in movie history when it arrives in theaters later this year.

Infinity Vision marks Disney's latest attempt to strengthen its presence in the premium large-format market. The format is widely viewed as the company's answer to IMAX, particularly as Disney faces increasing competition for premium screens. Several of the studio's biggest upcoming releases will have to share or compete for IMAX availability, including Spider-Man: Brand New Day alongside The Odyssey, while Avengers: Doomsday is expected to face competition from Dune: Part III. By introducing Infinity Vision, Disney hopes to provide audiences with another high-end theatrical experience while expanding premium-screen availability for its blockbuster releases.
One of the biggest attractions of Avengers: Doomsday is the highly anticipated return of Robert Downey Jr. to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After portraying Tony Stark, also known as Iron Man, throughout much of the franchise, Downey is returning in a dramatically different role as the iconic Marvel villain Doctor Doom. His casting has generated enormous excitement among fans eager to see one of the MCU's most recognizable stars take on a completely new character.
The film also reunites Marvel Studios with directors Anthony and Joe Russo, better known as the Russo Brothers. The duo previously directed Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, two of the highest-grossing films in franchise history. Their return has further fueled expectations that Avengers: Doomsday could restore the Avengers series to its record-breaking form.
Alongside Downey, the ensemble cast includes Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, and several other major Hollywood stars, making it one of Marvel's most ambitious productions to date.
The film carries added importance for Marvel Studios as the company seeks to regain consistent box office momentum. Since Avengers: Endgame concluded the Infinity Saga in 2019, the MCU has delivered mixed commercial results. While Spider-Man: No Way Home, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and Deadpool & Wolverine became major hits, several other releases—including Eternals, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Black Widow, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, Captain America: Brave New World, and The Marvels, fell short of expectations.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to open in theaters on December 18, setting up one of the year's biggest box office battles as it releases alongside Dune: Part III. With record-breaking pre-sales already underway, the film appears poised to become one of the most anticipated releases of the decade.
