Indian shuttler PV Sindhu failed to keep the momentum she had been gaining at the Tokyo Olympics on Saturday (31) when she lost to World No.1 Tai Tzu-ying 18-21, 12-21 in the semi-finals.

The reigning world champion and the World No.7 gave her opponent from Chinese Taipei a strong fight in the first game but was outplayed in the second. The match lasted around 40 minutes. This was also the first time that Sindhu dropped games in this Olympic.

Sindhu, who was eyeing her maiden gold at the Olympics, will now face China’s He Bing Jiao for the bronze-medal match on Sunday (1). Jiao lost to compatriot Chen Yu Fei, ranked second in the world, in the other semi-final 16-21, 21-13, 12-21.

Sindhu won the silver in the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
