SENIOR Congress leader P Chidambaram fell unconscious at the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad on Tuesday and was taken to hospital.
Sources said he probably fainted due to the heat after a hectic day.
The 79-year-old former finance minister's son Karti later said on X that his father is fine and is being examined by doctors.
The incident occurred when Congress leaders were attending a prayer meeting at the Sabarmati Ashram.
As Chidambaram fell unconscious, he was carried by other leaders to an ambulance which took him to hospital.
Earlier in the day, Chidambaram attended the extended Congress Working Committee meeting at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Memorial.

The date wasn't a coincidence — it fell exactly one year after Rodriguez first announced their engagement, and days before Ronaldo's own words about calling her his "wife" years earlier finally made sense.
For a couple who have spent the better part of a decade under constant public scrutiny, Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez managed to get married almost nobody saw coming — including, it turns out, the thousands of fans who showed up looking for it.
Why did fans crowd onto the wrong island?Days before the wedding was confirmed, reports suggested the ceremony would take place on Madeira, the island where Ronaldo was born, at the historic Funchal Cathedral. It made sense on paper: Madeira holds deep personal significance for him, sitting close to both the hospital where he was born and the stadium where his international career began. Crowds gathered there over the weekend expecting exactly that.
