Aryan Khan, 7 others sent to 14-day judicial custody

A COURT in Mumbai on Thursday (7) sent Aryan Khan, the 23-year-old son of popular Indian actor Shah Rukh Khan, to 14 days of judicial custody along with seven others in connection with a drug seizure on a cruise ship off the city’s coast early on October 3.

Aryan was taken by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) to its office in Mumbai after producing him before the Esplanade magistrate court. He will be kept in judicial custody in the office till Friday (8) because the jail would not accept new inmates late in the day, Asian News International reported.

The court also said that it will hear Aryan’s bail plea at 12.30 pm on Friday and asked the NCB to file a reply by then.

The court also said that the high-profile case will now be heard by a special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) court.

Eighteen people have been arrested in the case so far and of them, 17 have been produced before the court so far.

An NCB team busted al alleged drugs party on the cruise ship which was on its way to Goa at mid-sea. Eight people including Aryan Khan, Arbaz Seth Merchant, Munmun Dhamecha, Vikrant Chhoker, Ismeet Singh, Nupur Sarika, Gomit Chopra and Mohak Jaswal were produced before the court on Monday which remanded them to the NCB’s custody till Thursday.

As per the NCB, eight people were booked under Section 8C, 20B, 27 (Punishment for consumption of any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance), 35 (Presumption of culpable mental state) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act), 28 and 29.

Satish Maneshinde, the lawyer representing Aryan told the court, “Accused number 1, Aryan Khan was invited for the cruise party. However, he did not have a boarding pass. He didn’t have any seat or cabin there. Secondly, according to the seizure, nothing has been found in his possession. He is arrested only based on chats.”

Senior Khan took the NCB’s permission to meet his son and the latter reportedly burst into tears meeting the former.
