TWENTY-FOUR terrorists from Pakistan have been neutralised in various sectors of Jammu and Kashmir in the last eight months, a revelation which speaks a lot about that country’s continued support to terrorism in the union territory.

According to award-winning author Shishir Gupta who wrote for Indian daily Hindustan Times, latest records showed that eight of those 24 terrorists have been killed in the Jammu zone while the remaining 16 were killed in the Kashmir zone.

The report said that the terrorists have been eliminated in areas like Srinagar, Poonch, Pulwama, Anantnag, Rajouri, Baramulla and most of them are either from Pakistan-based terror outfits Lashkar-e-Taiba or Jaish-e-Mohammed. Identities of some of them are yet to be ascertained.

According to Gupta, the details of the terrorists prove that Pakistan continues to support terrorism despite its prime minister Imran Khan claiming otherwise on international platforms; relentless infiltration is happening all across the Line of Control in both Kashmir and Jammu and the main players that are operating are Lashkar and Jaish.

He said the Pakistan-based groups have sought cover by projecting themselves as indigenous Kashmiri groups and continued to target Kashmir.

The Indian home ministry recently informed the Rajya Sabha or upper house of the Indian parliament that the security situation in Kashmir Valley has improved significantly since August 2019 when Article 370 giving the former state a special status was revoked.

The number of terror incidents reduced from 417 in 2018 to 203 (up to November 30) in 2021 and the estimated net infiltration came down from 143 in 2018 to 28 (till October 31) in 2021, it was said.

“The government has instituted robust security and intelligence grid along with proactive operations against terrorists. Therefore, the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir has improved significantly since August 2019,” Indian minister of state for home Nityanand Rai said replying to a written question.
