INDIAN cricket supporters had a disappointing Monday (27) as the second day of the first Test match between South Africa and India at the SuperSport Park in Centurion was washed out without a single delivery being bowled because of rain.

The visiting team was batting first after winning the toss and ended the Boxing Day at 272 for 3 with opening batter KL Rahul hitting an unbeaten 122. Ajinkya Rahane was the other unbeaten batter on 40 not out.

Kohli scored 35 and opener Mayank Agarwal made 60.

The forecast for the day was not too good with thunderstorms predicted throughout the day. Brighter skies around the start time meant that some play would be possible. The venue is also known for its high-quality drainage facility.

Yet, persistent downpour made play impossible and around 2 pm local time, the day’s play was called for the day as the weather had little chance of getting better.

The forecast for the third and fourth days were better while rain is likely on the final day.

India are looking to win their maiden Test series victory in South Africa.

They have played two Tests against the Proteas at this venue in 2010 and 2018 and lost on both occasions.
