THE second Twenty20 international between Sri Lanka and India, which was scheduled to happen on Tuesday (27) but got postponed by a day after all-rounder Krunal Pandya tested positive for Covid-19, but it has now been reported that eight other members in the visitors’ camp have been ruled out of the series for coming in contact with Pandya.

The eight players include Krunal’s brother Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Krishnappa Gowtham, Manish Pandey, Yuzvendra Chahal, Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav and even Shikhar Dhawan, who has been leading the Indian side on this tour of the island-nation. The names of Shaw and Yadav in the list effectively ended the Indian cricket board’s plans to send them to England as back-up for the injured Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar and Avesh Khan ahead of the upcoming Test series.

India are leading the series 1-0.

This is the second time the outbreak of Covid has affected India’s ongoing tour of India. An outbreak of the virus in the Sri Lankan camp ahead of the start of the tour had forced the authorities to delay the start and it began on July 18 instead of the scheduled date of July 13.

India won the series 2-1 after winning the first two games and losing the concluding one in which they fielded as many as five uncapped players.
