Tom Holland’s sweet Zendaya remark 'she's married to me' steals the spotlight during 'The Odyssey' interview

Actors Zendaya and Tom Holland pose on the bridge in front of Castel Sant'Angelo during a red carpet event for the film "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" in Rome on June 23, 2026.

Highlights:

  • Tom Holland joked that Zendaya’s Athena is “married to me.”
  • The moment came during a Wired interview for The Odyssey.
  • Matt Damon praised Holland’s answer after the cast laughed.
  • Damon avoided revealing major plot details about Athena and Odysseus.
  • Holland recently confirmed he and Zendaya are married.

Tom Holland delighted fans with a lighthearted comment about Zendaya while discussing their upcoming movie The Odyssey. During a video interview with Wired, the actor turned a fan question about Zendaya’s character into a playful marriage reference, prompting laughter from his co-stars.

The cast, including Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, and Holland, answered questions related to The Odyssey and the classic Greek epic that inspired the film. One of the questions asked whether Zendaya’s character, Athena, had romantic feelings for Damon’s Odysseus.

Holland immediately shut down the idea.

“No,” he said, before adding, “because she’s married to me.”

The response drew laughter from everyone on set. Damon appeared especially amused and praised Holland’s quick response, calling it “a good answer.”

After the lighthearted exchange, the conversation shifted to another fan question about Athena’s connection with Odysseus. The interviewer asked why Athena chooses Odysseus.

Without revealing important plot details, Damon carefully avoided spoilers.

“This is difficult in the context of our movie without giving things away. Because does Athena choose Odysseus or does Odysseus choose Athena?” he said.

He then added, “Spoiler alert. That’s all we can say.”

In The Odyssey, Athena is the Greek goddess who acts as a divine protector and guide for Odysseus during his long journey home. She helps him return to Ithaca, where his wife Penelope and son Telemachus are waiting. According to the story, Athena frequently appears to Odysseus through visions, offering guidance and support throughout his journey.

Holland’s joke also comes shortly after he publicly confirmed that he and Zendaya are married. While the couple has kept details of their relationship and wedding largely private, Holland subtly acknowledged their marriage during an interview with Esquire last month.

During that interview, he spoke about AI-generated wedding photos that circulated online. Holland revealed that his grandmother had seen the fake images and mistakenly believed she had not been invited to the wedding.

When the interviewer asked whether he had to message friends and family to explain that the pictures were fake, Holland said no.

He explained that everyone close to them had actually attended the wedding.

The interviewer then tried to learn more about the private ceremony, but Holland declined to share additional details, choosing to keep that part of their lives out of the public eye.

Although Holland continues to protect his personal life, his playful “because she’s married to me” comment quickly became one of the most memorable moments from The Odyssey press tour. The joke offered fans another glimpse of the actor’s affection for Zendaya while adding a humorous touch to the cast’s discussion of the highly anticipated film.
