PROMOTING their new romantic comedy “You’re Cordially Invited”, Hollywood actors Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon shared their thoughts on Indian weddings.

While neither has attended one, both expressed curiosity about the grand celebrations.

Ferrell recalled receiving an informal invitation while staying at a hotel. “I was staying at a hotel once where they were having an Indian wedding. I believe it was taking over the course of three days. We were asking some of the guests, like, ‘What’s going on?’ They were like, ‘Oh, my cousin’s getting married. Do you guys want to come?’ It was like an open invite. I should have taken them up on the offer… it (an Indian wedding) looks like a lot of fun.”

Witherspoon, who has seen “Monsoon Wedding”, added, “I’ve seen the movie ‘Monsoon Wedding’, which was very beautiful. I think it would be really fun to be there.” She previously collaborated with the film’s director, Mira Nair, on “Vanity Fair” in 2004.

Their latest film, “You’re Cordially Invited”, directed by Nicholas Stoller, is now available on Prime Video. It follows two families who accidentally book their weddings at the same small island hotel on the same day.

Witherspoon plays Margot, a reality TV executive organising her sister’s wedding, while Ferrell plays Jim, a widowed father planning his daughter’s wedding. As neither is willing to reschedule, comedic conflicts arise.

Discussing what drew her to the project, Witherspoon said, “I basically decided to do this movie just because Nick Stoller was writing it, and Will Ferrell was in it. That’s just… you can’t fail. It’s just gonna be funny.”

Ferrell noted that wedding comedies have an established appeal but can still bring something new. “What’s wonderful about this movie is that it’s familiar territory. There have been wedding comedies before, so people already have a nice, easy entry point. At the same time, it’s the reinvention of this kind of genre in a way that exceeds expectations.”

The film features an ensemble cast, including Geraldine Viswanathan, Meredith Hagner, and Jimmy Tatro. Ferrell and Witherspoon also served as producers.
