Ahlan Modi: 700 artistes, over 150 community groups to welcome India PM

The event will take place a day before the Indian PM inaugurates the BAPS Hindu temple in the desert city in the UAE.

MEMBERS of the Indian diaspora in the UAE are set to host a grand cultural event as a testament to the unity and camaraderie between India and the UAE to welcome prime minister Narendra Modi in the city of Abu Dhabi on February 13, on the eve of the inauguration of the BAPS Hindu temple.

The event named ‘Ahlan Modi’ (roughly translates in ‘Hello Modi’), which is expected to see an attendance of more than 60,000 people, will be held at the Zayed Sports City Complex, the largest venue in the Middle Eastern nation.

The gathering, which is considered as one of the significant ones featuring Modi outside India, is an homage to ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (a Sanskrit phrase from ancient Indian scriptures signifying the whole world is one family) and seeks to affirm the rich cultural heritage and inclusiveness that epitomizes the Indian diaspora, a press release from ‘Ahlan Modi’ organising committee said.

The occasion will see performances by more than 700 cultural artistes, bringing the focus on the vast diversity of Indian arts and an inclusive cultural tone. There will be more participants from more than 150 Indian community groups to showcase the country’s regional diversity and presence of student groups from Indian schools. Also, blue-collar workers from across the emirates will take part in the event, Integrating a diverse array of elements, creating a cohesive and harmonious experience.

Women members of the Indian community have been particularly proactive. They have not only displayed overwhelming support and enthusiasm but also registered for the event in large numbers and promoting it actively.

Ahlan Modi’s organising committee consists of dedicated volunteers and community leaders who seek to cultivate the Indian culture and strengthen the bonds between India and the UAE.
