AMAZON India on Thursday (5) revealed the expansion of its fulfilment network in the South Indian state of Telangana with the launch of a new specialised centre, the fifth one, and spreading out of an existing one.

The expansion in Telangana is a part of Amazon India’s plans to raise its national storage capability by close to 40 per cent in 2021, it said.

The e-commerce giant said in a press release that spread over two lakh square feet of floor area, the new fulfilment centre will offer more than six lakh cubic feet of storage capacity, housing a wider selection of products from large appliances and furniture categories.

More than 35,000 sellers in Telangana will benefit from the centre with access to a larger customer base and the expansion will lead to creating direct and indirect work opportunities in the state while providing seamless and faster deliveries to the customers, the firm said.

The expansion also marks an increase in Amazon India’s infrastructure footprint in the southern state, which now will have a floor area of nearly a million square feet and storage capacity of over five million cubic feet. The new fulfilment centres will accommodate tens of thousands of products such as air conditioners, refrigerators, televisions, washing machines and products from the furniture category ahead of the upcoming festive season in the country.

Abhinav Singh, director, Amazon Transportation Services, Amazon India, said the expanded infrastructure will help the company in meeting its customers’ growing demand for large appliances and furniture while empowering small and medium businesses across the state.

“Our continued investment in Telangana will have a multiplier impact on the local economy and provide an impetus to ancillary businesses across the State,” he said.
Telangana information technology and industries minister K T Rama Rao said Amazon India’s significant investment in Telangana is a testament to its appeal as a business and innovation hub.
