Heartstopping footage has captured the moment a fearless BASE jumper parachuted off a 500ft skyscraper in Birmingham, sparking a major police response.

The thrill-seeker, who has chosen to remain anonymous, leapt from the One Eastside tower block, which is still under construction. Dramatic video footage shows him free-falling before deploying his parachute and landing in the middle of a road—just inches away from two passing buses.

A stunned police officer rushed toward him, asking, “Where did you come from?” To which the daredevil cheekily replied, “A plane just dropped me off… it just flew over there.”

Speaking about the daring stunt, the BASE jumper revealed that the challenge was heightened due to several factors, including restricted access, an on-site security guard, and a strong police presence.

He explained, “This was one of the most exciting jumps I’ve done because of the additional risks involved. The police were quick to respond and initially suspected we were involved in a burglary. They were heavy-handed at first but professional in their questioning.”

The jumper, a former military personnel with experience in Afghanistan war zones, shared that his passion for adrenaline-fueled activities stemmed from his time in combat.

“After returning from military service, I found everyday life dull compared to warfighting and clearing Improvised Explosive Devices. I started chasing the adrenaline through fast bikes, parachuting, and BASE jumping.”

Unlike traditional skydiving, he explained, BASE jumping offers a level of freedom and risk that is unparalleled.

“In BASE jumping, you make your own decisions. Get them right, and you survive. Nothing compares to the feeling of accomplishment after planning, executing, and escaping undetected.”

The daring jump took place on Friday, January 31, at around 9 PM, and footage of the stunt was later shared online by @letsmakestupiddecisions. The caption read: “Epic BASE jumps in the big city! 10/10 for police response time and professionalism. Never ideal getting caught, but we live and learn. Until next time!”

West Midlands Police confirmed they were called to reports of people on a Birmingham city centre building site, but no criminal offences were reported.
