Five nominees for BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year revealed; winner to be announced on March 5

Five nominees for the fourth edition of BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year have been announced and they include wrestlers Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat; badminton player PV Sindhu; weightlifter Mirabai Chanu; and boxer Nikhat Zareen.

The award honours contributions made by sportswomen from in 2022 and celebrates the achievements of all women involved in the country’s sport.

One can vote for his/her Indian Sportswoman of the Year on any of the BBC’s Indian Language websites, or on the BBC Sport website, the BBC said.

The voting will remain open to the public till February 20 at 18:00 GMT (23:30 IST) and the name of the winner will be announced on March 5 at a ceremony in Delhi.

All of the terms and conditions and privacy notice are mentioned on the website.

The sportswoman with the most number of public votes will be the BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year, with results to be published on the BBC Indian Language sites and the BBC Sport website.

At the ceremony, the BBC will also honour a sportswoman with a Lifetime Achievement award and present the award for Indian Para Sportswoman of the Year and Indian Emerging Player of the Year.

The inaugural award ceremony was held in February 2020.

A panel selected by the BBC compiled the shortlist of the five contenders

The jury includes some of the most authoritative sports journalists, experts and writers from all over India.
