Indian external affairs minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Thursday (27) hailed the Narendra Modi government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative during his visit to the South American country of Colombia, saying the initiative has many incarnations.

Jaishankar, who met his Colombian counterpart Alvaro Leyva Duran on Thursday (27) and discussed with him several bilateral issues and exchanged views on expanding the two nations’ cooperation in health, agriculture and digital domains, tweeted pictures of his visit to a showroom of India-manufactured Royal Enfield motorcycle and said, “.@makeinindia has many incarnations. Saw a Colombian one, sourced out of Tamil Nadu. Learnt that my Colombian counterpart also rides a Royal Enfield.”

Royal Enfield is an Indian multinational motorcycle manufacturing company headquartered in Chennai, the capital of the southern state of Tamil Nadu.

The ‘Make in India’ initiative by the Indian government aims to encourage companies to develop, manufacture and assemble products made in India.

Jaishankar also met the second vice president of the Senate of Colombia, Honorio Henriquez, and discussed health collaboration, energy and technology.

Jaishankar on Wednesday (26) started his visit to Colombia by meeting the local Indian diaspora in Bogota, sharing with them the country’s transformation into a “New India” and its global implications.

“Started my visit to Colombia by meeting the Indian community in Bogota. Shared with them the transformation underway in India and its global implications. Underlined how the world is recognizing the capabilities and contributions of a New India,” he tweeted.

Jaishankar is currently on a nine-day trip to South America and the Caribbeans and his itinerary includes visits to Guyana, Panama and Dominican Republic besides Colombia.
