VICE-PRESIDENT JD Vance, along with his wife, Usha Vance, candidly spoke about faith, family, and the rhythms of life in their official residence during a CBS Sunday Morning interview.

While the conversation centered on JD Vance’s journey toward Roman Catholicism, Usha’s perspective offered a quieter, steadier lens, one shaped less by conversion and more by continuity, upbringing, and family balance.

Usha described her own background and outlook, saying, “Well, I think in some ways it has been a very personal journey for him. I grew up in a household, a Hindu household, a very stable household, and I’ve not felt the same sense of need to seek something different that he has.”

Her remarks framed the couple’s dynamic not as divergence, but as coexistence.

That coexistence extends into their home life and religious practice. JD Vance described how, at times, they bring the church into their residence rather than always going out in public. “We do in this very room. Actually, not with a dozen cameras around and bright lights. But, uh, yeah, it’s one of the rare privileges of this life is that priests will come and you, and I try not to do it too much,” he said, noting both convenience and the responsibility that comes with public office.

Usha added that the arrangement fits naturally into their family’s rhythm. “I think having people believe very fundamental things that you are not always perfectly aligned with the way that I think about the world is just very comfortable to me,” she said, explaining that their differences often become points of discussion rather than division. “I’m fine with JD kind of having a different worldview at times and having to express mine and have us come to some kind of compromise or understanding.”

The couple had publicly confirmed that they are expecting a baby boy, sharing in a joint social media statement with their fourth child, a son due in late July. They also spoke about raising their children in an interfaith household while maintaining a shared structure.

JD Vance said, “We’ve just tried to make it as easy and accessible to the kids as possible, while you know, sending them to Christian schools and raising them in the Christian church, uh, our six-year-old just got baptized a couple of weeks ago, actually.” He added that their approach blends traditions rather than erasing them.

On the question of their growing family, they confirmed they are expecting another child, though they did not indicate a gender or name. JD Vance said they are still undecided: “We don’t. No, we’re actually really terrible at choosing names… we just veto all of the names until we find one that we both like.”

Usha emphasized the emotional steadiness behind expanding their family, describing it as grounded in hope. “I think you have to have some hope for the future,” she said. “And I think both of us have a lot of hope for the future.”
