THE Indian men’s hockey team retained the third spot in FIH (International Hockey Federation) rankings behind Australia and Belgium but the women’s team slipped to the ninth spot. The Netherlands were leading the table in the women’s category.
The Indian men’s team, which won an Olympic medal earlier this year in Tokyo, finished a disappointing third in the Asian Champions Trophy in Dhaka by losing to Japan in the semi-final before beating arch-rivals Pakistan to clinch the bronze. They ended with 2296.038 points to finish third in the overall ranking. Olympics silver medallists Australia were leading the table with 2642.258 points while champions Belgium were second with 2632.121 points.

The Indian women’s team, which finished fourth in this year’s Olympics, slipped to the ninth rank as they had to withdraw from the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy 2021 in Donghae, South Korea, after one of the members tested positive for coronavirus. They now have 1818.321 points.
