INDIAN president Droupadi Murmu on Friday (15) welcomed Bhutanese prime minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, her official residence in New Delhi, with words of appreciation for the mutual trust, goodwill, and cooperation between the two South Asian neighbours at all levels.

The Indian leader applauded Tobgay for choosing India as his first overseas destination after he took oath to his office in January. This is the second time that Togbay has become the prime minister of the Himalayan democracy. He met his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on Thursday (14).

Murmu said India attaches a lot of value to its multi-faceted relationship with Bhutan across areas such as energy cooperation, development partnership, people-to-people ties as well as trade and investment linkages, according to the statement issued by her office.

The president also highlighted that beyond political and social goodwill, India and Bhutan have shared a special spiritual bond around the heritage of Buddhism that connects them.

She assured Tobgay that India will continue to be a reliable friend and partner in all actions and steps taken towards upholding socio-economic well-being and prosperity of the Bhutanese people.

India’s development partnership will continue to be guided by Bhutan’s priorities and aspirations, especially of youngsters, she added.
