India sees below 50,000 new cases, fresh fatalities less than 1,000

INDIA has seen a single day rise of 46,148 new cases of coronavirus infections taking the tally of its cases to 30.27 million. The daily fatalities were recorded below 1,000, taking the total death toll to 396,730, the country’s health ministry said on Monday (28).

The number of fatalities at 979 in a day meant India witnessed the lowest in 76 days. According to the data published in the morning, the cumulative vaccine doses administered in the country reached 323.6 million. The ministry said India overtook the United States in terms of total number of Covid vaccination doses administered.

The ministry also said that while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has improved to 96.80 per cent, the active cases declined to 572,994 comprising 1.89 per cent of the total infections. A net decline of 13,409 cases has been registered in the active caseload in a span of 24 hours. Also on Sunday, 15,70,515 tests were conducted which took the total cumulative tests conducted so far for detecting the virus in the country to 406.3 million.

The daily positive rate was recorded at 2.94 per cent. It has remained below five per cent for 21 straight days, the ministry said, adding that the weekly positivity rate has come down to 2.81 per cent.

The recovery rate has also continued to outnumber the daily new cases for the 46th consecutive day. While the number of people recovering went up to 29.3 million, the case fatality rate stands at 1.31 per cent, as per the data.

The US remains the worst-affected country with 33.6 million cases and a death toll of almost 604,000.
