INDIAN AMERICAN technology entrepreneur Jiten Agarwal recently hosted a fundraiser for Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley in Houston, weeks before the crucial primary in Texas on March 5. Billionaires such as John Nau and Nancy Kinder were also present on the occasion.

Daughter of immigrants from India’s Punjab Haley, who is also a former governor of South Carolina and the US ambassador to the UN in the presidency of Donald Trump, is up against a herculean challenge to beat the former president to clinch the GOP nomination for the November 5 presidential election, but she is not ready to give up yet.

She arrived in the Lone Star State last week to continue her bid for the Republican nomination. She held two big rallies in the state — in Texas and San Antonio — before returning to her home state South Carolina which will go to the primaries on Saturday (24).

The 52-year-old leader is yet to win a single primary and was even beaten by the ‘none of these candidates’ option in Nevada earlier this month.

Backing Haley’ candidature, Agarwal said the former’s message of unity and display of a non-chaotic and strong leadership at a time when politics in America has been marked by division and partisanship has struck a chord with the people of Texas. He said the state’s Republicans are always in favour of a good conservative.

He added that a large section of the party is looking for a no-chaos leader who has a vision for America, prioritizes the country over personal gains and can serve for eight years. “Haley is the right choice,” Agarwal added.

Trump had swept the GOP primary in Texas in the 2020 presidential election while Ted Cruz, a politician from Texas, won the 2016 primary defeating Trump.
