He had shifted to Turkey from the Indian state of West Bengal more than a decade ago and has pursued the game of cricket in a country which is less known for the game.
Romeo Nath thanks the Almighty after finding that he escaped death along with his family after a series of earthquakes rocked Turkey on Monday (6) along with its northern neighbour of Syria. More than 24,000 people have reportedly been killed in the natural disaster while several thousands more have been injured.
Aid has poured in from all parts of the world, including India, to the country at its time of distress.
The 41-year-old Nath, who plays as a wicket-keeper-batter who has appeared in four T20s for Turkey, told Bengali daily Anandabazaar Patrika that the country could not be recognised after the earthquake which happened in early morning, killing thousands in their sleep.
Nath resides in the city of Istanbul which was not affected by the earthquake. He said he could not go to the office while his son's school was also closed after the incident. He told the daily that like many others, he was also trying to provide aid material to the affected. He also called up his national team colleagues to know whether they were safe but could not get an update from one of his friends who lives in Hatay which has been badly affected by the earthquake.
"Our relatives from India are calling us to know whether we are safe. We are telling everyone that we are alive," Nath told the daily.
